Summer Time Picnic   Saturday, July 07, 2012
by Beate Johns   Post Type: Card

What would a summer be without picnics and Barbeques. That will be the topic of next weeks blog post. For my project I decided to make a picnic invite with some of the new dies introduced during the summer blog hop.

When the nice weather finally comes out for the summer and the air gets warm, you immediately want to do everything outside. And when it comes to relaxing and taking advantage of the weather, picnicking is one of the best ways to do this. But to do your picnicking properly, you'll need a bit more than just a couple of plastic bags filled with food. Accessories and other handy tools can make the experience much more enjoyable and convenient, meaning you'll do it over and over again. Here are 5 things for a summer picnic that will help you make sure you have a great day out.

A basket or hamper is probably the most obvious accessory to have on hand. This convenient piece of equipment will store all your food in a strong light place that is easy to carry. You can find a variety of models that will fit almost any preference or party size. There are, of course, classic weaved models as well as polyester units or even tote style bags that can fit whatever you plan on taking with you. Another great option is to use a hamper, which can hold plates and other utensils in a safe and easy to use manner.

Next, you'll want a good blanket to take a seat on as well as set your food down on. This can be an old blanket from the house, but it's much better to use one especially made for picnicking. Not only these large enough for everyone to sit on in addition to holding your food, most are also fluffy enough to be quite comfortable for sitting on for extended periods. You may want to look for models with a waterproof bottom for greater life and to prevent any incidental moisture from getting on your blanket.

A good cooler is essential to keep your food tasting great. Insulated fabrics are a light and convenient choice, but won't provide the cooling power of an ice chest. Make a decision based on what you're eating on how long you plan on keeping it cool.

Entertainment is also very important. A few group games like croquet, badminton, or Frisbee are easy to move around and provide great relaxing entertainment.

Finally, pick out some fresh food that reflects the season. During this time of year, so many wonderful produce is available that simply isn't the rest of the year. Fresh fruits and vibrant greens are a perfect choice and healthy to boot.
