So Easy - it's Piercing!   Thursday, August 16, 2012
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Card

We have been sharing many different techniques using Spellbinders Die Templates and M-Bossabilities, the possibilities are endless.  If you are anything like me, you like to find more than one way to use your Dies, some techniques are more simple than others - today I am showing you how to use your Die as a Paper Piercing Template, easy and effective!

Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

Others: Paper Piercing Mat, Hole Reamer, Scissors, ribbon, large brad, gold card

I started by cutting two of the large (2) Asian Motifs Shapeabilities and two (2) of the Asian Accents Shapeabilities Border Strips.  Sponge the outside pattern of the first Motif, using the Clearsnap Walnut Ink and the inside square of the second Motif with the Clearsnap Curry Ink - as per the photos.

Note: I have used the Walnut Dauber to sponge just around the edges of the square, to define it more, this adds the impression of more dimension.

Pop the square onto the Piercing Mat, or any foam mat you use for piercing and using the Hole Reamer and the Shapeabilities as a template, paper pierce around the inside edge, as close to the edge as possible to give you the straightest lines - it is as easy as that!  Next, cut around the outside edges of the second Asian Motif, leaving the sponged square and the white border.  Pop the cut out square onto SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™  Foam Squares and layer it over the Asian Motifs Die. The addition of the piercing adds one more feature to your already gorgeous Dies.

I have used one of the embellishments from the Basic Grey Konnichiwa Pack, the little girl, adding foam dots and adhering her to the right hand side of the Asian Motifs.

The Asian Accents borders are added to the lower portion of the card. The Coordinating Motifs and Accents make it so easy to create a pretty card. To get them perfectly layered I have cut the top edge off one of the strips, as per the photo below, so that it does not show up underneath the pretty scallops.

I have chosen a plain paper, rather than patterned to highlight the Dies, especially as they are so decorative in themselves - I did not want to 'overload' the card so the added technique is lost - there is a fine line with this, as I am sure you already know.  If in doubt, I walk away and when I come back to look at my project, I can usually decide quickly.  This time I have decided to add texture, which adds interest but does not dominate - I have used the  Nobility M-Bossabilities.

Once the paper has been embossed, the sanding block has been rubbed over it.   Next add the Asian Accents Border and two rows of double sided tape - ready for the ribbon.

It is time to attach the ribbon by removing the Scor-Pal® double sided tape, tie your bow and attach it using the double sided tape underneath the knot of the bow and securing it onto the card using a large brad, as pictured.

It is time to add foam tape to the back of the Asian Motif Die and adhere it to the embossed paper, centered above the ribbon and bow.   I have decided to add one of the small Dies from the Asian Motifs, using gold card and layer an embellishment from the Basic Grey Konnichiwa Pack onto it.  I have used SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™  Foam Tape to add some dimension.

Finishing off with Want2Scrap Swirls Finesse in cream, as you can see in the finished photo.

Thank you for visiting today, I hope you are being inspired to use your Dies in ways you have not thought of before - we would love you to share your Spellbinders creations on the Spellbinders facebook page.
