Each month we host a designer from one of Spellbinders’ Design Teams. This is an opportunity to meet the diverse group who design projects for Spellbinders’ Idea Gallery, trade and consumer events, and advertising. Each featured designer post also includes an opportunity to win Spellbinders’ products!
This month’s featured designer is Linda Duke. Linda has been designing for Spellbinders since 2008. She started on the Design Team and moved to the Blog Team a few years ago. We asked Linda to answer a few simple questions that would give us a peek into her life as a designer. Here are her responses:
What’s your design/craft story? ie. How’d you get started? As a small child, I loved to draw and paint with my dad, who I thought was one of the most talented artist I ever known. I wanted to create paintings just like him. He was a perfectionist; he always said that paying attention to the small details will make the finished project great. I loved that about him.
Fast-forward, I majored in art while in college, lived in Europe for 3 yrs and studied with local artist that taught me how to cast, and paint ceramics. When I returned to the US, I became a Certified Instructor for Duncan Enterprises in ceramics for many years. Later I joined the National Society of Decorative Painters, and took Tole Painting classes from many top instructors from around the country. Around 1993 (approximately), I discovered rubber stamping/paper crafts, and never left.
What/who inspires you? Why? As mentioned above, my dad. Whenever I start working on a new idea, I always think to myself “how would he approach this idea”, or “how would he make this idea come to life”. He always has, and will remain the force in what ever I create.
Define your design style in 1 word. Vintage/Shabby Chic – take your pick. LOL!
What’s your favorite project to create with Spellbinders’ product? A few years ago this would have been easy to answer, but now it’s tough only because Spellbinders’ has come out with so many amazing tools for creators to create with. I can’t answer this because they have so many mediums to choose from, I can’t turn to one and say that’s my favorite! I LOVE THEM ALL!
