What’s your design/craft story? ie. How’d you get started? I was in college and wanted to do something fun with my photos. I picked up a black paged, spiral bound album, a gel pen, and some photo corners at a local Hallmark store and thus began what would become the biggest obsession of my life. I dove into scrapbooking. Did that for many years and found that it morphed into card making, general paper crafting, and eventually into other art forms such as art dolls, watercolor, and assemblage art.
What/who inspires you? Why? I am inspired by lots of things! I love to take inspiration from other art forms. I find inspiration from things like book covers, magazine ads, interesting things in the city like sidewalk patterns, architecture, billboards, and other random things. I believe inspiration is all around us. I am also, of course inspired by others who craft. I find that I get more technique tips from them, whilst finding design ideas around me.
Define your design style in 1 word. Clean.
In the last 12 months what has been your favorite memory or proudest accomplishment? For Mother's Day this year, I decided I wanted to create a handmade gift that my Mom would really love. I decided to try my hand at sketching and watercolor. I had used watercolor on cards in the past, but had never done an original piece. I sketched the Old North Church, a popular landmark here in Boston, and painted the piece. I have never considered drawing to be a skill of mine, but was excited to see that I was actually able to do it quite successfully. I then did a second piece for my Dad for Father's Day, this time a watercolored piece featuring a Les Paul Gibson guitar. I was absolutely THRILLED to discover this new medium for me! I am still working on it, but I feel like it is something I am truly good at doing and it is exciting to discover new talents in ourselves!
