Try It Tuesday: Have You Tried It Yet?   Tuesday, May 21, 2013
by Kelly Loubet   Post Type: Announcement

Every Tuesday, you can participate with Spellbinders in a live YouTube broadcast! We call it Try It Tuesday. Typically... it's hosted by in-house crafting gurus Ken Oliver and Terre Fry... while I (Kelly Loubet) keep the live chat hoppin'! We talk all things crafty and share both new and well loved techniques.

This particular week... we have an office full of extra guests. It's a bit crowded! To top that off... Ken is in the UK doing demos on tour and I am on a little vacation. So... we'd like to share with you an oldie but goodie today.

Enjoy this replay, but remember the chat isn't live this week! If you have a question while watching... type it in and we'll get back to you. And have no fear... we'll be back next week, May 28th at 9am PT, with a fresh new show all about photo transfer techniques! See you then! xo- Kelly

Media - Other than Paper   Tuesday, May 21, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Card

'Other than Paper' is this weeks theme and it makes me want to use everything that is lying around the house - all of those things I have kept and thought 'one day I will use this..'  That day is here and I am using a number of things 'other than paper' to create this card - and yes, I have used paper as well!

Start by cutting six (6)  Scalloped Circles LG using the Chiffon and the number 3 Die, along with three (3) Standard Circles SM in size one, two and three (3) Standard Circles LG Nestabilities®dies  in size 3, with the Tulle

Making Your Own Vintage Printer Blocks with Die Templates   Saturday, May 18, 2013
    by Candy Rosenberg

Printers Block Created by Candy Rosenberg
    www.LivingTheAlteredLife.com

I absolutely adore printer letter blocks, the cabinets and trays that housed them years ago. These items are vintage in nature as they have not been used on any regular basis in commercial printing in many years.  These items are becoming very highly sought after and many companies mimic them for home décor use.

I was inspired when visiting a store recently and noticed some “new” printer blocks on the shelf and I suddenly realized how I could reproduce them with Spellbinders™ die templates.  I was really excited to see if this would work and love the way they turned out. I hope you enjoy the video and have fun making these.

    On The Road…It’s a blog!   Friday, May 17, 2013
by Stacey Caron   Post Type: From Stacey

I am so excited to share with all of you another feature that we have added to the Spellbinders website! It’s called, “On the Road”, which is our newest blog! It's for all the designers and me, to create a virtual post card that we can share with all of you, while we are traveling to the different events that we are attending.

How much fun is this going to be? It is designed so that you will feel like you are right there with all of us, as we continue not only exploring beyond in our crafting, but also exploring the world that carries our products!

One thing I love to do when I am traveling has always been to send a hand-written post card to friends and family. It makes them feel like they are right there with me. I love that it has a scenic view, and a small area where I can write a personal note of the experience! That was the basis for developing this fun new blog. I have recently been given many opportunities to bring my children on the road with me, and I have a lovely world map, that we put little dots on to show where we have been. This is another feature that is now a part of this fun area.

I hope that you will visit us on the new On The Road Blog, under the Explore Beyond tab and join us on our crazy adventures. I encourage you to leave a little note for whatever post you journey into. I know that the designers and I would love to chat while we are away from friends and family.

    Hugs,

Summer Days   Thursday, May 16, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Scrapbook Page

This weeks theme is Summer Layouts - in the Southern Hemisphere we are heading to winter, so I am going to create a layout of that will remind me of summer and one of my favourite places to be - in our garden.

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Partner Companies:

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Scissors, Sanding Block, Pink Seam Binding, Acrylic Block, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® VersaFine™ Archival Pigment Ink in Onyx Black, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® VersaMagic™ Chalk Pigment Ink Dew Drop Ink Pad in Thatched Straw, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Pistachio, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Sponge Daubers™, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Markers™, 3D Kindy Glitz

The first step is, using white card, cut out one (1) Wrought Iron Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® Die D-Lites™ and two (2)  Gilded Gate Two Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® Die D-Lites™ using the Spellbinders Grand Calibur® Machine. Also cut and emboss one (1) of the oval frames from the Jewel Framed Sentiments Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities®

NOTE: It is recommended that you use Wax Paper between the Die and the card with the filigree dies, to make removal easier.

       Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Layout, Die-Dites

Cut and emboss two (2) sets of  Les Papillions Two butterflies.  I have alternated the colours of the base and filigree butterflies. Before removing the card, use the Dies a a Stencil on the base butterfly, sponging using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Pistachio and an IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Sponge Daubers™.  You can see how effective it is in the photo below.

Cut and emboss Rose Creations Shapeabilities® - one (1) Size six flower, two (2) size four flowers, one (1) size three flower and one (1) size one flower.  Curl each petal using a small paintbrush and layer the flowers - secure them with a small brad.  I found a small piece of a flower I had created and glued it into the center to add to the flower.

My photos were the right size (6 x4 inches) and did not need cutting, but they fitted perfectly into the 5x7 Matting Basics B Card Creator Dies - size     Die.  I embossed them using the usual embossing sandwich, giving me an edge to sand on the photo - I love the effect this gives- you can see the close up below.

Next I stamped two (2) of the large bee from the Penny Black®, Inc. - Sweet as Honey stamp set, plus one (1) small bee.  These have been cut out and coloured using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Markers™.  The larger Bees have been layered and the wings had shimmer added.

The Jewel Framed Sentiments frame has been taped together at the back and sponging added in the same manner as above,  next the butterflies are glued on.  This is adhered to the Want2Scrap©  Chipboard, which is then adhered to the left side of the photos, using glue.  Pearls are added around the edge of the frame.

Wrought Iron and Gilded Gate Two Die D-Lites™ to the lower edge of the paper, lining up the top bar of the gates with the bottom edge of the photo.  Position the fence either side of the gates, as shown.  Add a layered Les Papillions Two butterflies to the center of the  Gilded Gate Two and adhere pearls to the center.

The Want2Scrap© - Frilly Flourish Swirl - White Pearls has been added to the right side of the photos, roughly centered and the Rose Creations flower adhered to the lower right side, using glue.

I have finished off adding the sentiment using chipboard that has had the top shiny layer removed and has been sponged using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ in Pistachio and a dauber, these have been glued along the bottom of the fence.

Thank you for stopping by - I hope this layout inspired you to get out your photos and Dies - to capture those memories that will 'warm your heart' on cooler days and be a legacy that your family and friends will enjoy sharing with you.   Please feel free to add any questions relating to this project in the comments bellow.  I read them all and will answer you here.  Have a wonderful day!

Summer Layout- Whining To Go To The Beach   Tuesday, May 14, 2013

      SAMSUNG

12” x 12” Layout Created by Candy Rosenberg
      www.LivingTheAlteredLife.com

I recently received a stack of photos of my kids when they were little.  I had a house fire in 1996 that destroyed all of the family pictures up to that date, then had a few other incidents and moves that we lost a few more pictures along the way. Thankfully Grandma has been saving them and it was so much fun looking at how small my three children were, how young I looked and how much skinnier I was….ahhhh those were the days!  Made me miss the two that are no longer at home and hug the one that is, a little tighter!!!

I love my two girls at the waterpark…but they much rather have been at the beach….they were whining about that very thing that day!  It is going to be fun to watch and take pictures of these two this summer and compare!

Other:  textured paper, thickers alphabet: amy tangerine weekender, ink, scissors

Start with die cutting the wave pattern from shiny light  blue textured paper.  To adhere to the layouts use Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Adhesive sheet.

TIP: Place the top piece back onto the sticky adhesives sheet, it will not stick and you can rub on the die cut to get adhesive coverage.

      SAMSUNG

Die cut and emboss some of the other die cuts in the set including seashells.  TIP: I used the negative portion of the previously cut splash die to make the bottom portion look more like sand.  I added 3D foam squares to the seashells to add dimension and placed two pieces of burlap and jewels to add sparkle.

OH!!! So Hot!!!   Friday, May 10, 2013
by Stacey Caron   Post Type: From Stacey

Recently, I made the decision to do something healthy for myself. We all get busy and it’s something I have personally been putting off for quite a long time while on my Spellbinders journey.

As many of you may or may not know, my sister Cindy and her husband David are moving to Phoenix. My brother- in- law David has become part of the Spellbinders family and is working in the sales department! One afternoon, he said to me, “Hey Sis? Why don’t you come try Hot Yoga with me and our friend Missy?”

"What!?!" I said, "Me do yoga?"

I’ve never tried any yoga. So, with a bit of hesitation, I decided to give it a try.

First, let me explain a little about what Hot Yoga even is, because quite honestly, I had no idea what I had gotten myself into! Bikrim Hot Yoga is 26 postures done in a room heated to 105 degrees, at 40% humidity, for a total of 90 minutes. They use the same routine every time!! Needless to say, you sweat your guts out.

The first two classes, I felt like throwing up! This happens to most of the students who are new to this type of yoga experience. The goal at first, is to stay in that room and learn to breathe! An amazing phenomenon happened to me after the first class….as hard and sweaty and disturbing as the class was….. I felt GREAT afterwards!!!!!

The release of stress was amazing. I felt calm and slept better that night than I have in years. The third class, I felt like crying in class. It’s not easy to exercise in a 105 degree room, but when I left that class… again, I felt amazing!

I have now completed my eighth class and I am already noticing changes in my muscle tone, strength and I'm even doing better at the poses, especially on the foot I had ankle surgery on.  Our teachers, Robin & Jim, are so inspiring. I find myself actually looking forward to going to the next class.

I want to take this opportunity to thank my brother-in-law David, for his encouragement and support and my good friend Missy, for the same reasons. The three of us are actually enjoying sweating our guts out together!

On a very funny note, see the photo of the Humble Pie Pizza shop…its next to the Yoga Studio.  Needless to say, I love that pizza shop… but do not feel the need to go near it. The Yoga studio has successfully served me up their own version of humble pie and I like it much better! Here are a few before and after pics for you to laugh at…warning the after photo is not pretty! LOL!

      Hugs,
