Precious Family Memories   Tuesday, April 30, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Mixed Media

This weeks theme is such a lovely one - Preserving Family Memories - it doesn't get more special than this.  The memories can be from the past or newly formed today - the important thing is they are precious to us, to our family and those we love.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Tutorial, Bezel, Preserving Family Memories

Family is something that is precious, something we all have at some level and the photos of loved ones can be preserved in many ways.  I have chosen a Wedding Photo of my paternal grandparents, this has been shut away in a box and now is the perfect time to bring it out and preserve them in a special way.

Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

  • MMM-001 Spellbinders™ Artisan X-plorer™ Machine
  • MB2-001  Susan Lenart Kazmer for Spellbinders™ Media Mixage™ Circles One Bezels
  • MD1-007 Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Circles One Dies

Cross Promotional Partners:

SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ - Crafty Power Tape; 3D Foam Dots

Other: Photos, Charm, Wire cutters, Seam Binding, Braid, Recycled Chain

I started by cutting out the photos using the MD1-007 Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Circles One Dies and the Spellbinders™ Artisan X-plorer™ Machine.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Tutorial, Bezel, Preserving Family Memories

It is adviseable to use repostional tape so there is no risk of movement, especially when cutting precious photos.

Spellbinders, Tutorial, Linda Lucas Media Mixage, Artisan Explorer

Next it is important to seal the photo so that the ICE Resin® does cause discolouring in any way.  I have applied two coats of IMAGINE Crafts GlazOn™ onto the photos with an Ink Blusher™, then added GlazOn onto the sides of the photos so that the resin wouldn’t “bleed” into the paper.   This is followed by two coats of Creative Medium™, in the same manner, using an Ink Blusher to apply onto the photo.  I have also used Creative Medium to adhere the paper into the bottom of the Circles One Bezels to hold it in place prior to adding the ICE Resin

Mini Album, Tutorial, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders

The ICE Resin is mixed according to the instructions and drizzled into the Circles One Bezels to adhere the photo and then the ICE Resin is poured into the Bezels and put aside to dry overnight.

Media Mixage, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Tutorial

The loop is cut from the Charm using Wire Cutters and the charm glued into the smallest size of the Circles One Bezels.

Media Mixage, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Tutorial

I have upcycled a chain from an old piece of jewellery  and threaded Seam Binding loosely through it, attaching the completed bezels along the way, leaving extra lengths at the end to form a tassel.  Some braid has been added around the loops on the bezels and glued using a Hot Glue Gun.  A Seam Binding bow has also been attached to the top link.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Tutorial, Bezel, Preserving Family Memories

Thank you for stopping by today today and for the comments you leave.  I hope you are inspired to take those precious family photos/memories and preserve them in a unique way - timeless and a work of the heart.

Mini Album   Thursday, April 25, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Mixed Media

Don't you just love the theme this week - "Mini Albums or Journal Covers" - it is a personal favourite of mine - I love Mini Albums and cannot resist adding lots of Dies and embellishments to them - I have tried to exercise some self control with this Album - but...well, you will see.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

This is a perfect project to use those little bits you have gathering on your desk - if you are anything like me that is! My inspiration started with a divine box a friend had saved for me, it used to have a Candle in it - I could see the potential and am so pleased to be using it as part of a Mini Album, this Album is special to me - as you see the Tutorial you will see why.

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Recycled Box, Scissors, daubers, IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Delicata™ Pigment Ink; Memento™ Dye Ink - Desert Sand; Peanut Brittle, Mulberry Rose, recycled lace, Buttons, Mulberry Roses, Stickers, Sanding Block

The box did not need to be covered, apart from the drawer front, I have cut a Labels Twenty- Nine Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® using the Size 4 Die, A hole has been punched in the middle to allow the ribbon to be pulled through.  This is attached to the front using Scor-Pal® 1/4" tape.

For the top start by cutting some of the My Mind's Eye™  paper with the Labels Twenty Four Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® and adhering it to the coordinating Labels Twenty-Four Nestaboard.  Adhere the coordinating Nestabling. This is adhered to the top of the top using  Scor-Pal® 1/4" tape.  This is now put aside while the Album is created.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

Finish the box by sponging the Want2Scrap©chipboard word with IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Delicata™ Ink to add some gorgeous gold shimmer.  Adhere diagonally across the top of the Labels Twenty Four.  The Spiral Blossom One Shapeabilities® has been cut with Melissa Frances - Crepe Paper; and the Foliage Shapeabilities® has been lightly sponged with IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Delicata™ and tucked in under the flower.  Melissa Frances embellishments have been added to opposite corners.  Finishing off with Want2Scrap© bling on the drawers.

    The Album:

Start by cutting a 30 x30cm piece of Kraft Card into three widths of 10cm each, scor each one at 10cm.  Join each one by taping the last square of one to the first square of the next length - do this with all three lengths.  Fold in Mountain and Valley folds.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

Cut 14 squares of patterned paper using the Classic Rectangles LG Nestabilities.  Using a maximum of four different papers - double sided paper makes co-coordinating easy.  Using Scorpal Double sided tape, adhere the paper to each of the pages on one side of the card.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

Cut and emboss Labels Eighteen Dies and Labels Twenty- Nine Nestabilities®, using the Die as Stencil, sponge using IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye Ink - Desert Sand.  Embellish the pages using photographs and embellishments.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty- Nine and Postage Stamps  Nestabilities® have been used on these pagesAfter being cut and embossed, the Die has been used as a Stencil, then sponged using IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye Ink - Desert Sand. The pages have been embellished using recycled lace, Want2Scrap© bling, Mulberry Roses and a sentiment sticker.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

Labels Twenty- Nine and Labels Eighteen Nestabilities® have been used on these pages.  Each one has been cut and embossed, the Die has been used as a Stencil, then sponged using IMAGINECrafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye Ink - Desert Sand.  The pages have been embellished using recycled lace, Want2Scrap© bling, Mulberry Roses and a sentiment sticker.

Mini Album, Linda Lucas, Spellbinders, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities

The Mini Album cover has been created  by using the Wonderful Wings Shapeabilities®  in red and white card, as shown below,  layer adding Want2Scrap© Nestabling and charm, along with a small Mulberry Rose.

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you have been inspired by my Mini Album - you may not have all of the Dies I have used, but do not limited by that - any of the Spellbinders Dies will work beautifully - you are only limited by your imagination!

Dragon Pendant   Thursday, February 07, 2013
by Beate Johns   Post Type: Mixed Media

This week's topic is jewelery. Not my usually forte. But the new bezels and matching dies designed by Susan Lenart Kazmer for Spellbinders, do make it easy. I knew I wanted to create a pendant for Rebecca. We went to Hobby Lobby and purchased a few charms and went to work.

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Partners:
    Cross Promotional Partners:
    Others:
    • Sanding block, Dragon charm, necklace

We started by picking paper we wanted to use as the back drop for the dragon and would look good in the MB1-006 Shields One Bezel. The second largest MD1-006 Shields One die was adhered with re-positionable adhesive over Basic Grey Serenade paper.

The edges of the paper shield were first sanded and sponged with light brown ink.

The paper was adhered inside the shield bezel and the charm was centered inside.

I mixed Ice-Resin following instructions on the package (easy peasy...if Reba and I can do it, you can too) and filled the shield until it was level. We let it dry overnight before adding more resin to create a dome. Again we let it dry overnight.

A hanger was added before the pendant was placed on a necklace! I can't wait to make more! I will be hunting stores for cool things to add to those darling Bezels!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to create with your dies today! Have a wonderful day.

    Hugs and smiles

Simply Stunning   Tuesday, February 05, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Mixed Media

I am excited to be sharing today's post where the theme is a Simple Jewellery Piece. Not being having created much jewellery, I proceeded with caution, those 'baby steps' I mentioned in a previous post using some of the new Media Mixage on a card - so if you are thinking 'not for me' I encourage you to keep scrolling down.....

I was so excited to see how easy it is to create something with such easy steps - I would love to hear what you think once you see this tutorial and the end result of what I created - I have to say it again - it is so easy.....

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Partners:

    • Want2Scrap  - Baby - LeCreme Pearls ; 72 Count - Le Creme Pearls - Self Adhesive
    Cross Promotional Partners:

Others: Scissors, Upcycled string of pearls, bronze card, Artistic Wire and tool, bronze card stock,

Start by cutting and embossing one (1) Ovals One Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Dies in Bronze card, Tsukineko Tangelo and Morocco Reinkers

Mix ICE Resin as per the instructions - it is very easy with the plungers - no measuring!!  Add one drop of Tangelo Reinker and 4 drops of Morrocco Reinker, stir for 2 minutes, you will notice the mixture going from a cloudy look to clear - even with the colour added, this means it is mixed properly.  Set aside for 5 minutes - any bubbles will settle.

Next, using the stirrer, drizzle a little of the ICE Resin into the base of the Ovals One Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Bezels, place the Die Cut card into the Bezel next and then cover with the remaining ICE Resin.

If you have mixed more ICE Resin than required, have one of the smaller sizes on hand and fill it, to be used for a future project.  You can see the rich look the coloured ICE Resin has in the smaller Bezel.  Set the Bezel aside to partially set for three hours.

I then CAREFULLY added a handmade cameo, lining it up as it is placed into the Bezel.   Want2Scrap pearls have been added around the top and bottom as shown in the photos below.

To finish off I have used a upcycled string of pearls from a piece of costume jewellery that is not worn anymore.

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you are inspired to EXPLORE BEYOND your comfort zone, as you can see, it does not need to be complicated, this Simple Jewellery Piece was just that - simple!!

4” x 6” Mixed Media Canvas with Ice Resin Paper Die Cuts   Thursday, January 24, 2013
by Candy Rosenberg   Post Type: Mixed Media

    SAMSUNG

    by Candy Rosenberg

Mixed Media canvasses are very popular. Have you tried mixed media yet? No? Perhaps you already have and didnt even know it. Mixed media is the mixing of two or more mediums and adding a technique, this could be paper, canvas, paint, ribbon, whatever you have on hand is a medium. Let me show you how to easily achieve the look of a mixed media canvas that are so popular right now and make great home decor and gifts for others. It is simply a matter of just being creative, no rules, just layering and having fun with it. I'm going to show how to make this canvas in just a few easy steps.

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Exclusive Crown Die from CHA
    Alternate die sets:

    Cross Promotional Partners:

    Others:

    • Ink Pen, Blending Tool, Ink

Gather supplies, starting with a 4” x 6” blank canvas we will be using Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze “Cowboy” to cover the canvas.

    SAMSUNG

Paint the edges of the face approximately 1 inch inward.  The middle will be covered by paper, so do not worry.  Paint all the edges thoroughly as well.

    SAMSUNG

    SAMSUNG

Once the paint has dried, adhere the inked edge damask paper to the canvas.

    SAMSUNG

Then you will start adding your texture and dimensional layers.  Adding a small piece of burlap along with the May Arts ribbon.

    SAMSUNG

Adding a canvas banner and old photograph.

    SAMSUNG

This is a cool little effect that I came across quite by accident. I had cut a piece of the ice resin covered music sheet paper with the cattails die and forgot to use wax paper.  The paper was slightly stuck in the die so I carefully started to remove with a  sharp pin and only portions of it came out.  I added these to the bottom of the canvas for a neat little effect.

    SAMSUNG

    SAMSUNG

    SAMSUNG

To create the crown, I used an exclusive Spellbinders die that could only be received at the Craft and Hobby Association trade show last week.  You can use any of the three available die sets that include a crown that I included in the supply list above.

    SAMSUNG

    SAMSUNG

I added the crown to the canvas.

    SAMSUNG

Wrap the May Arts twine around the top and tie off.  The Place in Time Sentiment and number stickers are then added to finalize the project.

    SAMSUNG

I cant wait to see what you create…mix up your media and see what happens.  Don’t be afraid, just EXPLORE BEYOND!

    Be Inspired,

    Candy

Blast from the Past Shadow box   Thursday, December 06, 2012
by Beate Johns   Post Type: Mixed Media

Isn't this week's topic fun? Who doesn't need more gift ideas. When I think gifts, I think of ways to showcase pictures of the kids for my in-laws or my Mom. I had bought a 7Gypsies shadow box just for that purpose earlier this year. This challenge made me use it. :) Since my kids don't like being in front of the camera lately (teenagers!), I used a picture when they were still small and oh so cute!

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Partner Companies:
    • Want2Scrap - Christmas Bling, Finesse Silver Rhinestone Swirl, 72 count silver rhinestones

    Cross Promotional Partners:
    Others:
White cardstock, white acrylic paint, sanding block, blending tool, glass beads, silver cord, clear drying adhesive, glitter, stamp, blue and black ink

I started by cutting down the image just a bit so it would fit in the big opening of the shadow box. Next I sanded the edges and then added white acrylic paint to it.

I cut and embossed Bazzill Basics Paper® - Sea Salt Cardstock with the three smallest Layered Poinsettia and one of the Ornate Artisan Tags and Accents die. White cardstock was cut and embossed with the Poinsettia leaf and some of the Frosty Forms dies. The die cuts were sponged with light blue ink. Christmas was stamped in the circular center of the Frosty Form die cut and 2002 was written underneath with a black marker.

Next the Poinsettia die cuts were sponged with light blue ink, stacked on top of each other and topped with a Want2Scrap rhinestones. Clear drying liquid glue was added over the sponged areas of the poinsettias and glitter was added.

Two pieces of red patterned paper were cut to size to fit in the small squares on the bottom of the shadow box. Three pennants were cut out light gray paper with the smallest Nested Lacey Pennants dies. Each patterned paper piece was sanded. Each corner of the pennants was pierced.

The pennants were strung up with silver cord and some clear beads. Then it was time to adhere everything into the shadowbox. For that I used SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVE BY 3L™  Foam Adhesive Squares. the panels were spruced up with Want2Scrap rhinestones.

I had created this shadow box as a gift, but now, looking at my sweeties, I don't know if I can give it up. Does that ever happen to you?

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to create with your dies today! Have a wonderful day and weekend.

    Hugs and smiles

Handmade Gift   Tuesday, December 04, 2012
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Mixed Media

Handmade Gifts are this weeks theme and one I personally love.  There is nothing that touches the heart more than a gift that is created from the heart - it reflects long lasting memories to express the the language of love, celebration, comfort and encouragement.

This week we are sharing ideas with you that we hope will inspire you in a way that enhances the very “nature of giving”

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Promotional Partners:

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Acrylic Block, Colouring Pencils, Scissors, wax paper, Satin Ribbon, large brad, wide foam tape, Linen Ink, Walnut Ink

Start by stamping three (3) of the Penny Black® Inc. Holiday Delight stamp onto white card and cut out each one using the Spellbinders Grand Calibur® Machine and the Grand Circles Nestabilities®.  Using the Die as a Stencil, sponge around the inside edges using the Clearsnap - Stylus - Cat's Eye Adapter and linen ink

Remove the Die Cut images from the Nestabilities.  I have precoloured the images.

Cut out three (3)  Decorative Grand Circles Nestabilities® in red card.

Cut out three (3) of the Standard Circles SM Nestabilities® in gold card and three (3) of the Standard Circles LG Nestabilities® in red card. * Use size 5 from each Die. Add a layer of wax paper between the card and the Die, wax side up to make it easier to remove the card from the Die - this especially helps remove the filigree Dies without tearing. Layer the gold circle on to the larger red one using SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ - Thin 3D Foam Squares

*NOTE: Spellbinders are numbered from the smallest to the largest - one being the smallest.

Next cut the letters from the Jewel Alphabet Shapeabilities® J,O and Y in white card and use the Dies as a Stencil, sponging with Linen and Walnut to age the letters.  Remove from the Die.  Adhere each letter onto one medallion using Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue.

Add a double row of Scor-Pal® - 1/2" Tape down the center of the back of each circle, attach one end of the Satin Ribbon to the top of the first circle (with the letter 'J' on it).  Allow enough ribbon to form a loop at the top and then continue to adhere the ribbon along all of the circles as shown in the photos below.

Adhere wide foam tape on the back of circle, a piece either side of the ribbon and long the center, attach the Decorative Grand Circles Nestabilities® to the back of each circle.

Make  a bow made with the Satin Ribbon, attaching a large decorative brad to the center.  Attach to the base of the ribbon loop using the Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue.  Add small red Want2Scrap pearls on each letter as shown in the photo below.

Finish off by adding bling to each circle and on the ribbon at the base, dove tail the end of the ribbon.

Thank you for visiting today, I hope that you are inspired to think 'outside the square' with your handmade gifts, everyone of them being an expression of your art and the heart.

All Wrapt Up   Tuesday, November 27, 2012
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Mixed Media

This weeks theme is Gift Wrap/Tags - don't you just love Beate's project, along with the International Spellbloggers.  For my project today I have created a Christmas Tag and decorated a matching Gift Box.

I have to confess to being a bit addicted to gift boxes - they can be decorated so easily with Spellbinders Paper Arts Dies....as you can see!

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Promotional Partners:

    • Penny Black® Inc. - Christmas Story and All is Bright (Sentiment)
    • Want2Scrap - Nestabling - Nested Pennants; Swirls Finesse - Silver Rhinestones

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Scissors, ribbon, Hole Punch, Burlap Ink, Straw Ink, Red Brick Ink, Green Ink, wax paper, recycled bling button

Using the Spellbinders Grand Calibur® Machine and white card, cut and emboss one (1) Nested Lacey Pennants Shapeabilities® in the largest size Pennant.  Two (2) of each size flower from the Layered Poinsettia  Shapeabilities® in red card.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities, Tag, Christmas

While the Pennant is still in the Die, sponge around the inside edges using Straw and Burlap Ink, using the Die as a Stencil.   Before removing the card from the Die, stamp with the Penny Black® Inc. Christmas Story in Black ink, remove from the Die.  Adhere the Want2Scrap Nestabling onto the Pennant.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities, Tag, Christmas

Ink the veins on the Layered Poinsettia  Shapeabilities® with Red Brick Ink, using the Die as a Stencil.  Remove from the Dies.  Separate the Poinsettia into two piles as we are making two flowers.  Layer together using Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue, starting with the largest layer at the base and the smallest at the top.

Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Grand Calibur, Nestabilities, Tag, Christmas

Attach a recycled bling button to the center of each Poinsettia using Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue.  Adhere one Poinsettia to the lower right corner of the Tag using SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ Thin 3D Foam Squares.

Stamp the Penny Black® Inc. All is Bright sentiment onto white card and cut out using the banner from the Layered Poinsettia  Shapeabilities®.  At the same time cut out four (4) leaves in green.  Using the Dies as Stencils sponge the banner using Straw and Burlap Ink and also the veins of the leaves with green ink.  Attach the leaves and the banner as shown in the photo below.

Punch a hole in the top of the tag, thread through some chiffon Ribbon, securing with the Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue on the front of the card, attach a bow on the front of the tag using the glue - as seen in the photo below.

For the Box - cut two (2) lengths of the Ironwork Accents Shapeabilities® and adhere around the lid of the box using Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue.  Attach the layered Poinsettia flower to match the tag using the SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ Thin 3D Foam Squares.

Finish off both the tag and the box by adding Want2Scrap bling as shown in the photos below.

Thank you for visiting today, I hope you have enjoyed my projects and are inspired to create your own tags and gift wrap/ gift boxes, they add such a personal touch to your gifts.

Make sure you pop over and link your projects to the Spellbinders Paper Arts Facebook page - we love to see you.  If you have any questions about the tutorial - please feel free to ask and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
