Grand Calibur, A Closer Look!   Saturday, July 31, 2010
by Beth Pingry   Post Type: New Product Introduction

Wahoo, I bought home a brand new Spellbinders™ Grand Calibur™ die cutting machine and the Grand Nestabilities®!  I'm so excited to share it with you!  Lets take a closer look at this fabulous new die cutting machine!

Sp[ellbinders Grand Calibur

The Spellbinders Grand Calibur machine comes with all the plates you need to cut and emboss low profile dies, including Spellbinders, Quickutz, Sizzlit, Cuttlebug, etc.  It will not accommodate the original size Sizzix dies.

The outer housing is plastic, so it is light weight, about 10 pounds. It has a built in handle to make it easy to carry.  The Grand Calibur has steel gears inside for the durability and quality you expect from Spellbinders.

The white lever on the front is for the stability base.  Flipping it to the right keeps the machine securely attached to the table with suction.

Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities

The mats are 8¼ x 11¾", and the opening on the machine is 8½" wide.  You can die cut with 8½ x 11" paper without trimming it!

Grand Calibur mats

The mats are large enough to cut several die templates at once!  I can cut all of S4-161 Labels One with room to spare!

Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities

Did you notice the SKU numbers?  They are the same suffix, so you can match up your sets.  For example, Grand Nestabilities LF-110 Grand Ovals is the set that coordinates with Nestabilities S4-110 Classic Ovals LG

When you combine the sets, you maintain the ½" difference between die templates, allowing you to make ¼" mats all the way up to the largest size die template.

Grand Calibur Cutting Sandwich

Sandwiches are easy!  Use the A Base Plate for all sandwiches, positioned at the bottom of the sandwich. Place the die templates with the cut ridge up, then the paper, and then the C Cutting Plate.  The plates are colored so you can tell the difference between them too!

Grand Calibur embossing sandwich

The embossing sandwich starts with the A Base Plate, die template with cutting side up, paper, Tan Embossing Pad, then the pink B Embossing Plate.

This is the best part: just slide the sandwich into the opening at the front of the machine.  Turn the handle and the sandwich feeds through.  It's a smooth and easy motion.

No, wait, this is the best part: the sandwich exits the machine at the back, and it comes out smoothly, gently and quietly.  I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but in some cases a video is better!

The MSRP is $129.99 for the Spellbinders Grand Calibur die cutting machine.  The Grand Nestabilities die templates sell for $49.99.
