Summer Days   Thursday, May 16, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Scrapbook Page

This weeks theme is Summer Layouts - in the Southern Hemisphere we are heading to winter, so I am going to create a layout of that will remind me of summer and one of my favourite places to be - in our garden.

Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

Preferred Partner Companies:

Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Scissors, Sanding Block, Pink Seam Binding, Acrylic Block, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® VersaFine™ Archival Pigment Ink in Onyx Black, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® VersaMagic™ Chalk Pigment Ink Dew Drop Ink Pad in Thatched Straw, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Pistachio, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Sponge Daubers™, IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Markers™, 3D Kindy Glitz

The first step is, using white card, cut out one (1) Wrought Iron Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® Die D-Lites™ and two (2)  Gilded Gate Two Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® Die D-Lites™ using the Spellbinders Grand Calibur® Machine. Also cut and emboss one (1) of the oval frames from the Jewel Framed Sentiments Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities®

NOTE: It is recommended that you use Wax Paper between the Die and the card with the filigree dies, to make removal easier.

     Spellbinders, Linda Lucas, Layout, Die-Dites

Cut and emboss two (2) sets of  Les Papillions Two butterflies.  I have alternated the colours of the base and filigree butterflies. Before removing the card, use the Dies a a Stencil on the base butterfly, sponging using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Pistachio and an IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Sponge Daubers™.  You can see how effective it is in the photo below.

Cut and emboss Rose Creations Shapeabilities® - one (1) Size six flower, two (2) size four flowers, one (1) size three flower and one (1) size one flower.  Curl each petal using a small paintbrush and layer the flowers - secure them with a small brad.  I found a small piece of a flower I had created and glued it into the center to add to the flower.

My photos were the right size (6 x4 inches) and did not need cutting, but they fitted perfectly into the 5x7 Matting Basics B Card Creator Dies - size     Die.  I embossed them using the usual embossing sandwich, giving me an edge to sand on the photo - I love the effect this gives- you can see the close up below.

Next I stamped two (2) of the large bee from the Penny Black®, Inc. - Sweet as Honey stamp set, plus one (1) small bee.  These have been cut out and coloured using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Markers™.  The larger Bees have been layered and the wings had shimmer added.

The Jewel Framed Sentiments frame has been taped together at the back and sponging added in the same manner as above,  next the butterflies are glued on.  This is adhered to the Want2Scrap©  Chipboard, which is then adhered to the left side of the photos, using glue.  Pearls are added around the edge of the frame.

Wrought Iron and Gilded Gate Two Die D-Lites™ to the lower edge of the paper, lining up the top bar of the gates with the bottom edge of the photo.  Position the fence either side of the gates, as shown.  Add a layered Les Papillions Two butterflies to the center of the  Gilded Gate Two and adhere pearls to the center.

The Want2Scrap© - Frilly Flourish Swirl - White Pearls has been added to the right side of the photos, roughly centered and the Rose Creations flower adhered to the lower right side, using glue.

I have finished off adding the sentiment using chipboard that has had the top shiny layer removed and has been sponged using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ in Pistachio and a dauber, these have been glued along the bottom of the fence.

Thank you for stopping by - I hope this layout inspired you to get out your photos and Dies - to capture those memories that will 'warm your heart' on cooler days and be a legacy that your family and friends will enjoy sharing with you.   Please feel free to add any questions relating to this project in the comments bellow.  I read them all and will answer you here.  Have a wonderful day!

Summer Layout- Whining To Go To The Beach   Tuesday, May 14, 2013

12” x 12” Layout Created by Candy Rosenberg

I recently received a stack of photos of my kids when they were little.  I had a house fire in 1996 that destroyed all of the family pictures up to that date, then had a few other incidents and moves that we lost a few more pictures along the way. Thankfully Grandma has been saving them and it was so much fun looking at how small my three children were, how young I looked and how much skinnier I was….ahhhh those were the days!  Made me miss the two that are no longer at home and hug the one that is, a little tighter!!!

I love my two girls at the waterpark…but they much rather have been at the beach….they were whining about that very thing that day!  It is going to be fun to watch and take pictures of these two this summer and compare!

TIP: Place the top piece back onto the sticky adhesives sheet, it will not stick and you can rub on the die cut to get adhesive coverage.

Die cut and emboss some of the other die cuts in the set including seashells.  TIP: I used the negative portion of the previously cut splash die to make the bottom portion look more like sand.  I added 3D foam squares to the seashells to add dimension and placed two pieces of burlap and jewels to add sparkle.

Grand Layout   Thursday, February 21, 2013
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Scrapbook Page

Scrapbooking is something that many of us love to do - if you are anything like me,  you once thought you would never create a layout - but how wrong I was!  It is something I don't get to do often enough but the Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities, make it so much easier and do half of the work for us.

I started this layout sometime ago but it was not coming together at all - when I saw this week theme of Grand Layouts, I took it out of the pile of UFO's (Unfinished Objects) and took it apart - it came together so very quickly with the help the Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities.

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Promotional Partners:

    • Want2Scrap -Beautiful Bling Borders - Endless Waves

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Kellycraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square, blue card, daubers, sanding block, scissors, corrugated card, stickers,

Start by cutting and embossing one (1) Grand Labels One Nestabilities® from the My Mind's Eye™ - On the Bright Side patterned paper and one (1) Ribbon Banners LG Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® in white card, using the Grand Calibur® Machine  Sand around the embossed edges as shown in the photo below.

Once photo placement is decided, add the Grand Labels One underneath and position it so it is showing to the left of the photo - as shown in the photo below.  I had previously backed the photo with blue card.  Adhere s strip of torn sponged corrugated card below the photo.

Before removing the white card, sue the Ribbon Banners LG Shapeabilities® as a Stencil, sponge with Imagine Crafts/ Tsukineko Brilliance - Galaxy Gold Ink. Insert under the Grand Labels One, above the photo and add a sentiment/word using stickers.  This is made so easy by using the Kellycraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square.  I have to say, I love this tool - usually I do things at sight and I am surprised how easy this is and accurate - I have used it a number of times on this tutorial - it is well worth checking out.

My sentiment is made of Chipboard letters from my stash.  I have sanded then and embossed using the Harlequin M-Bossabilities™  NOTE: I have used a different 'Sandwich' for the thicker chipboard - The Raspberry Plate and Pink Embossing Plate only - no brown mat!!

The letters are sponged using a Dauber and Imagine Crafts/ Tsukineko Brilliance - Galaxy Gold Ink and Pearlescent Ice Blue, giving a subtle shimmer to the lettering.

The letters are attached using Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue and positioned onto the corrugated card with the help of the Kellycraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square - so quick and easy! I have also used the Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to keep the Want2Scrap -Beautiful Bling Borders - Endless Waves bling strip straight as well.

Some of the Want2Scrap -Beautiful Bling Borders - Endless Waves has also been added along the lower portion of the paper and faux stitching has been added using a Paper Piercer and Mat and a Tsukineko Memento Marker - Peanut Brittle.

I have previously created a Fleur de Lis Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Bezels, cutting a remnant of patterned paper using the Fleur de Lis Spellbinders™ Media Mixáge™ Dies, inserting it into the Bezel and filling with ICE Resin.

Thick twine is tied through the loop and I have lifted the Ribbon Banners LG Shapeabilities® to pop the twine underneath, as this was an after thought - not unusual for me and so easily altered.

The ends of the twine are taped onto the back of the layout and I have also taped a small strip of card across this, so the twine does not catch on anything and come off or tear the layout.

I hope you are inspired to bring out those photos that are just waiting for the right Dies and accessories to capture those memories that will become treasures for family and friends in time to come.  Layouts are a legacy for our loved ones, sharing both our art and our hearts, capturing those special moments that we want to keep with us over the year.  Spellbinders has certainly made this easy for us!

Thank you for stopping by today and for all of the encouragement you leave for us.

This is Happiness: Monika Martinson Layout   Wednesday, January 09, 2013
by Guest Author   Post Type: Scrapbook Page
    Hi there! Monika Martinson here!

Hope you are having a great day so far and I´m happy that you stopped by. Before I go on, I would like to say a belated congratulations to Stacey, who had a birthday earlier this week. I hope you had the best of days and wish you many happy returns!

And, actually happy birthdays are sort of the theme for the layout I´m sharing today. Earlier this year, I gave myself an early birthday gift. I bought my self a second car! And as shallow as it may sound, it gave me and my family so many great and happy memories! The picture on the layout is taken on our last trip before it got too cold to go without the top on.

    Monika Martinson Spellbinders

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    • Spellbinders Grand Calibur® Machine
    • Spellbinders Edgeabilities Classic Edges One
    • Spellbinders Shapeabilities Medallion Two
    • Spellbinders Spellbinders Shapeabilities Vintage Lace Motifs

    Preferred Promotional Partners:

    • Kaisercraft
    • Nikki Sivils

    Others:

Patterned papers, stamp from Momas Lil´shop of stamps, Flowers from Manor House creations, Color Box Fluid Chalk

If you would like to recreate this layout here are the really simple steps:

Start by cutting your papers into size and using the Edgeabilities Classic Edges One on the edges. Use some Color Box Fluid Chalk (Dark Peony) on the edges of some of the papers.

    Monika Martinson Spellbinders Edgeabilties

After removing the cut shape, you can use a rub on with a sentiment inside the circle. Tip: if you do not have a sentiment that fits, you could use the space to journal or why not put a flower in the middle?

Use one of the patterned papers and cut only the edge die.

Attach the white lacy die cut to the patterned one with 3D dots in the middle.

Cut out the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Vintage Lace Motifs. If you don´t have a matching circle shape die to use in the middle, it is really easy to use the die to guide you while cutting with a small craft knife. Be careful though, not to cut in to the die.

    Monika Martinson

All there is left now, is to glue the pieces together! Add a few stickers, the stamp and sentiments and you're done! I also slightly bent the paper around the Vintage Lace Motif to give it a 3D feel.

Nestabilities and Layouts   Tuesday, December 11, 2012
by Linda Lucas   Post Type: Scrapbook Page

This week is all about Nestabilities® - do you remember the first ones you brought?  I remember only too well and an addiction came very quickly! LOL!  I love the way Nestabilities® can be used on any project, whether it be the basic shapes or the filigree Dies that Spellbinders™ does so beautifully.

Today I am showing you how I use Nestabilities on a layout, they not only cut shapes for layering our photos but can also be used to cut the actual photo - I love that!

    Spellbinders™ Paper Arts Supplies:

    Preferred Promotional Partners:

    Cross Promotional Partners:

Other: Sanding Block, scissors, wax paper, wide foam tape, Linen Ink, Walnut Ink, remnants of patterned paper

Start by cutting  and embossing  each of the photos using the largest size Classic Squares LG Nestabilities®

Using a sanding tool, sand around the embossed edges of each photo - the photo on the right shows you a close up of the sanding - it almost gives the appearance of another layer.

With the Grand Circles Nestabilities® cut out one (1) circle in the Bazzill Basics Paper® - Milkshake card, using the size 7 Die.  Next cut it in half.  Noting that Spellbinders number their Dies with the smallest being number one upwards.

Repeat the process with the My Mind's Eye™ - Follow Your Heart paper in the size 6 Die, also cutting it in half and sanding around the edges as shown below.

Ink the chipboard letters using a dauber and brown ink, each coat of ink makes it darker, so it is easy to control the depth you are wanting.  Using the Grand Calibur® Machine emboss the letters with the Dainty Dots  M-Bossabilities™ Folder, it adds such great texture and interest to the letters.

Draw around the Classic Squares LG Nestabilities® used for cutting out the photos and cut out, this is for backing the photos, the white layer makes the photos pop - as you can see in the photo below. Adhere the photos to the white card using Scor-Pal® - 1/2" Tape

Add the strip of patterned paper to the base paper, I have added it just next to the image. Adhere the My Mind's Eye™ - Follow Your Heart paper to the Bazzill Basics Paper® on either side of the Strip - as seem below.  Adhere the photos to the strip using Scor-Pal® - 1/2" Tape, leaving an even distance between them.

Attachthe embossed letters using Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue, being careful to place those on the photo correctly so the photos are not damaged. Also adhere the buttons using the Glue.  Add the Want2Scrap - Beautiful Bling Borders-Endless Waves! below the Chipboard letters.

Time to cut the final Die, one (1) Kite and three (3) bows from  Up, Up and Away  Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® using some remnants of paper from your stash.  Using the Die as a Stencil, ink the Kite and remove from the Nestabilities®, sand both the kite and bows.  Adhere to the paper popping up the Kite with SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ - Thin 3D Foam Squares, adhere the bows with Beacon Adhesives - Zip Dry Paper Glue, as shown in the photo below using Creative Impressions thin twine.

Thank you for stopping  by today, I hope you are inspired to use Nestabilities® on your layouts, both on paper and photos - we are only limited by our imaginations.
