After I cut out a shape with a die, there are lines in my Cut Mat. Is this normal?
Yes, this is completely normal. The Cut Mats will show the shapes of die templates that have been cut. The mats are long lasting, but will in time need to be replaced. Both sides of the mat are functional, be sure to flip the mat over to use both surfaces. My Spellbinders® die template does not have any guides. How do I line up the shape to emboss without guides?
The cut edge or “ridge” is your guide. Your cut shape will fit snuggly in the cavity of the die shape for the emboss function.

I hear a crunching sound when I use the cutting side of the die. Is this normal?
This is normal – it is simply the sound of paper being cut.

My paper is stuck in the die. What should I do?
The open areas of the metal die may “catch” your cutting material. Simply push the cut piece out from the back side with a stylus or dull-pointed tool. For highly detailed die templates, such as the Spellbinders Shapeabilities® Pendants, place a piece of waxed paper between the die template and the paper before cutting.

I’m embossing with a brass stencil, but I’m not getting enough definition. How can I fix this?
When using heavy or dense cardstock, improve the depth of embossed detail with water, glitter sprays, or a spray embossing agent. To use, simply mist your paper or cardstock lightly. These agents soften the paper or cardstock, greatly improving the quality of your image! You may also try using slightly thinner cardstock (some types work better than others) or simply adding color to your embossed shaped to bring out the detail.

Is there any way to prevent getting the lines around the edge of brass stencils?
Yes! We have W-023 Enlarged Embossing Pads available. Trim them to just smaller than the size of your stencil. This will prevent the lines from showing up around the edge.

How do I use a charm, lace or coin to create an emboss?
Many charms, lace and coins can be used to create an emboss. Flat items use the same sandwich you use for embossing Spellbinders Die Templates. Thicker items require the use of thinner mats. See the Spellbinders Grand Calibur Machine FAQ or the Spellbinders Wizard Machine FAQ for sandwich details. With non-standard items, proceed with caution. Do not force sandwiches that are too thick, you may damage the machine and void the warranty. Testing with scraps is encouraged.
