- If I purchased the original Wizard, what do I need in order to use the new Spellbinders Embossing & Cutting Dies?
- The purple and raspberry Wizards Embossing & Cutting Dies require two White Master Mats, one White Spacer Plate or Magnetic Spacer Plate, and a Tan Emboss Pad. The original Wizard included one White Master Mat and one Tan Emboss Pad.
- What’s the difference between the “new” Wizard and the “original?” Am I missing out on something if I have the original version?
- NO! The Purple or Raspberry Wizard™ Embossing & Die Cutting System is capable of all of the same functions as the original Wizard™. The new version now weighs less than four pounds. It has rubber feet on the bottom to help prevent slipping. It now reverses direction with the simple flip of a switch. None of these new features change the amazing functionality of the machine.
- My Wizard™ slides all over when I’m using it. Am I doing something wrong?
- The Wizard™ is designed with non-slip pads on each end, but if you find that your table is still too slippery, place the Wizard™ on top of a rubber shelf liner or other non-slip surface. Hold the Wizard™ on the left side with the long leg/tray away from you while beginning your crafting activity.
- Help! My sandwich is jammed in the Wizard™. How do I get it out?
- On the yoke of the handle is a reversing button or switch. Push in and the movement will reverse (or switch the direction of the lever) as you push or pull the handle. Push the button again to go back to original direction. Getting a sandwich stuck can be caused by pulling the lever back beyond the notch after the sandwich has been engaged under the rollers or by attempting to force a sandwich through the Wizard™ that is too thick.
- Is there any way to prevent getting the lines around the edge of brass stencils?
- Yes! We have large sheets of Spellbinders™ Tan Emboss Pads available for purchase so that you can trim them to just smaller than the size of your stencil. This will prevent the lines from showing up around the edge.
- After I cut out a shape with a die, there are lines in my White Master Cut Mat. Is this normal?
- Yes, this is completely normal. The White Master Cut Mat absorbs the die cutting activity. We suggest that you set aside your White Master Emboss Mat to use solely with embossing charms and brass stencils so that the cut lines do not show up as part of your embossing.
- I’m embossing with a brass stencil, but I’m not getting enough definition. How can I fix this?
- When using heavy or dense cardstock, improve the depth of embossed detail with water or a spray embossing agent. To use, simply mist your paper or cardstock lightly. These agents treat the paper or cardstock, greatly improving the quality of your image! Also, layering a piece of thick cardstock under your Tan Emboss Pad will provide greater pressure in your sandwich and improve the definition. You may also try using slightly thinner cardstock (some types work better than others) or simply adding color to your embossed shaped to bring out the detail.
- My Spellbinders™ Die Template does not have any guides. How do I line up the shape to emboss without guides?
- The cut edge or “ridge” is your guide. Your cut shape will fit snuggly in the cavity of the die shape for the emboss function.
- I hear a clicking sound from my handle. Is this normal?
- We like to say that if you hear the sound, you know that it’s working! It’s simply the moving gear action in the base of the lever.
- I hear a crunching sound when I use the cutting side of the die. Is this normal?
- This is normal – it is simply the sound of paper being cut.
- My paper is stuck in the die. What should I do?
- The open areas of the metal die may “catch” your cutting material. Simply push the cut piece out from the back side with a stylus or dull-pointed tool. For fonts, we have placed holes in the cavities of the letter for removal. A toothpick works great.
- I’ve always had to use a foam pad with other dies. Should I use them on the Spellbinders™ Embossing & Cutting Dies?
- That’s always an option. The dies actually cut better without sticky foam pads. This option also offers you better visibility of what die you’re using, saving you time.
- How do I use a charm to create an emboss?
- Most charms can be used to create an emboss using the Wizard. Start with the White Master Mat. Place the Charm down with the detail facing up. Cover it with paper of foil. Next, cover is with a Tan Emboss Pad or two depending on the thickness of the charm. For thinner charms more than one pad might be necessary. If you are unsure, start with one pad and test the results. Too much thickness can cause the mats to get stuck in the machine. Finally, complete the sandwich with the Blue Emboss Mat.
- How do I use a Fiskars Texture Plate in the Wizard?
- Start with the White Master Mat. Next lay down the Fiskars Texture Plate and paper. Complete the sandwich with the Tan Emboss Pad and Blue Emboss Mat.
- How do I use a Cuttlebug™ Embossing Folder in the Wizard?
- Using a Cuttlebug™ Embossing Folder is slightly different depending on the model of your machine. For Purple Wizards, simply sandwich the CuttlebugTM Embossing Folder with paper inside between the two White Master Mats. For the Raspberry Wizard, start with a White Master Mat. Add the CuttlebugTM Embossing Folder with paper inside. Next, cover it with a Tan Emboss Pad. Complete the sandwich with a Blue Emboss Mat.
- How can I flatten a bottle caps in the Wizard?
- Start with a White Master Mat with a piece of scrap paper over it. Place the bottle cap flat side down on the scrap paper. Cover the cap with a Tan Emboss Pad. Complete the sandwich with the Blue Emboss Mat.
