Welcome! I am Debbie Olson, a member of the Spellbinders™Paper Arts Blog Team, and today I'm privilaged to share a post on Spellbinders Edgeabilities® Classic Postage Stamp.  I have two pieces to share, one a traditional Thanksgiving card and the second a bit offbeat - perhaps a birthday card for a teen!

Thanksgiving card Spellbinders instructions

I cut/embossed cream cardstock using the edger die template from Spellbinders Edgeabilities Classic Postage Stamp.  Next I used the hearts decorative insert to add detail to the cream strip.  I used the circles decorative insert on the newsprint patterned paper and trimmed the bottom off so that the circles could partially frame the hearts on the cream layer.

Give Thanks Spellbinders detail view

After sanding and stacking the layers, I sewed the newsprint layer to the damask layer and then stamped and cut out the leaves. Finally I added dyed seam binding, the hand-trimmed leaves, the sentiment, and the rhinestones - easy!

My second card requires some explanation.  When I started to discard the negative shape from Spellbinders Edgeabilities Classic Postage Stamp, it reminded me of a zipper.  I just couldn't get it out of my head until I tried it on paper!

I started by cutting/embossing silver cardstock using the edger die template from Classic Postage Stamp. If it looks a little different here, it's because I used the cut that you might normally discard.  I cut a long rectangle for the zipper pull, and then used the smallest square die template from Classic Squares SM to cut a square from both ends of my zipper pull. I used the smallest die template from Labels Twenty-One, as well as a square from Classic Squares LG to be part of my zipper mechanism.

This is what the zipper pull looked like after I put it together with foam tape.  You can also see how I am going to assemble the zipper part.  I stitched the edge of the denim paper to the zipper.

zipper card detail

When I cut my denim patterned paper, the right side had some nice detailing that looked like wrinkled jeans, but the left side did not.  I used markers followed by pencils to add some wrinkle character to the left side as well; you can compare the two photos above to see what I added.

I cut the card base large enough to be able to have a pocket inside to hold a gift card or check.

The trickiest part of this card was trimming it when I finished with the front! As you can see, the zipper is particially open.  That meant that my denim front that had started as 5 3/8 x 4 1/8" was now wider at the top and narrower at the bottom.  I square up the bottom edge and proceeded to square the other edges from that.  My resulting card is slightly smaller than 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" after my squaring-up process, but it's close enough that no one would notice without measuring.

The 1st card is just beautiful...but I really love the creativity of the 2nd card.  Just brilliant!  Hmmm...my favorite Spellbinder Edgibilites die so far...tough call because the designers have done such an excellent job showing us how to use them...I would have to choose Classic Bracket!  Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Judy I, St. Louis MO Thursday, November 17, 2011

I HAD to have the Classic Bracket because of the fleur de lis motif, and I do love it, but the zipper made with the Postage Stamp Edgeabilities is fabulous. That's really thinking outside the box.

WOOOOOW! Both cards are stunning! Though I must admit the teenager card is just a mind-blowing piece of work! It truly takes an artist to see a "zipper" in a "postage stamp" and convert the seeing into being!!! Thank you for the inspiration! And thank you for the chance to win! And answering the question about Edgeabilities, I don't own a Classic Scallop one and feel like I'm missing an essential cardmaking nessessity :-)

  • Gaby Friday, November 18, 2011

I love the comment...."is like asking which child do you love most!"... but I am so in love with Debbie's creativity with the stamp/zipper creation!! and love how she used the "circles" on on the newsprint paper... I just ordered 4 sets of edgeabilities (the only ones my online store had)
  • Amery D Friday, November 18, 2011

    Very cute and creative zipper!
  • Kari aka Bashful Friday, November 18, 2011

What a Cleaver Idea! Your Ideas will have me looking at things discard  differently from now on.  I Love them all.  However, if given a choice of one only: I would have to say, The Classic Petal Edge-ability is my favorite.  Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Carrie C Friday, November 18, 2011

They are both wonderful cards but the second one is such a creative use of leftovers. It'd make a great masculine card too. I love the Classic Petal die.
  • Ann I Friday, November 18, 2011

Love both cards! Debbie is so talented!! Thinking good thoughts so I win the dies :)
  • Donna M. Friday, November 18, 2011

I love the fleur de lis and heart edgeabilities, but just love how versatile they all are, working together to achieve some fantastic effects on cards and scrapbooks. Wouldn't be without them now, although this is one that I don't have. Love these two cards, just shows exactly what a good product and a little imagination can do.
